What to Wear on a Wine Tour (And What Not To)

After hundreds of tours, I've seen it all — from stilettos in vineyards to flip-flops in barrel rooms. Here's what actually works.

The Golden Rules

Comfortable Shoes

You'll be walking on gravel, grass, and uneven terrain. Wedges, loafers, or clean sneakers work great. Save the heels for dinner.

Layers

Central Coast weather can shift 20 degrees between morning and afternoon. A light jacket or cardigan is essential.

Dark Colors (Strategically)

Red wine spills happen. A dark top or a pattern that hides splashes is smart. That said, don't wear all black — you'll roast in the sun.

What Works

  • **Sundress + denim jacket** — Classic wine country look
  • **Chinos + button-down** — Polished but comfortable
  • **Linen pants + nice top** — Breathable and stylish
  • **Comfortable flats or loafers** — You'll thank yourself

  • What Doesn't Work

  • **High heels** — Vineyards are not runways
  • **All white** — One splash of Pinot Noir and it's over
  • **Heavy perfume/cologne** — It interferes with wine aromas
  • **Flip-flops** — Some wineries won't allow them

  • For Bachelorette Parties

Matching outfits are always a hit for photos. Coordinate colors rather than identical outfits — it looks better in pictures and everyone feels comfortable.

Still not sure? Text me a photo of your outfit options and I'll give you my honest opinion. Seriously.
